Our dedicated team of highly skilled furniture makers and upholsterers work personally with each customer to create luxurious pieces by hand to the most exacting specifications. Using traditional techniques passed down through the generations, the team members work closely together right here at our state of the art facility in the UK.

In this edition of our blog, we introduce three delightful chairs that are variations on an equally delightful theme: the Morley Chair, the Scroll Chair and the Queen Anne Chair.   

All of these items are wingback chairs, with wings that stretch from the chair's back to its attractively scrolled arms. Though they are now almost an entirely decorative feature, these wings once served a practical purpose, which was to keep the occupant shielded from any drafts while simultaneously trapping heat. It is for this latter reason that a popular placement area for wingback chairs was next to an open fireplace.

All of these exquisite chairs boast high, deeply padded seats. In addition to providing the sitter with superlative comfort, the height of these seats also offers excellent back support, improving health in general and posture in particular. 

Another key feature of this trio of wingback chairs is their attractive Queen Anne style legs. Queen Anne furniture originated in the 1720s shortly after the eponymous monarch's death and was characterised by a unique blend of elements from William and Mary (which preceded Queen Anne furniture) and Chippendale styles, which followed soon after.

Arguably the most distinctive element of Queen Anne furniture is the legs, which are wider at the top and then taper elegantly inwards before splaying out to a narrower angle than they began with. They finish at the end with rounded feet, usually referred to as 'pad feet' but sometimes, rather confusingly, as 'Dutch feet'.
